Dr. Kristen Joyce earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. During her final clinical rotation, she discovered a deep passion for treating pelvic and sexual dysfunction and has been devoted to this work ever since. As both a pelvic physical therapist and sexuality counselor, she believes the best care happens when we treat the whole person—muscles, nervous system, identity, relationships, and pleasure included.
Dr. Kristen merges advanced orthopedic and pelvic physical therapy training with sexuality counseling and education to provide up-to-date, evidence-based, and affirming care. She is an expert and leader in her field, working closely with surgeons and medical doctors on the latest technology and improvements in pelvic health, particularly in gender affirmation procedures. She has been certified by Herman & Wallace as a Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner (PRPC), the top pelvic rehab certification available.
As a sexuality counselor, educator, and consultant, Dr. Joyce offers:
Her work is educational, collaborative, and non-judgmental. She does not provide psychotherapy, diagnosis, or hands-on sexual activity. Instead, she focuses on helping clients understand their bodies, communicate their needs, and make informed, empowered choices about their sexual wellbeing, often in close coordination with their broader medical and mental health teams.
Dr. Joyce specializes in the care and treatment of the LGBTQIA+ community, including post-operative gender affirming surgery care. She also has extensive experience with individuals undergoing fertility treatments or along their fertility journey, clients with hypermobility disorders, endometriosis/PCOS, and pre/post-surgical care (including bladder sling procedures, hysterectomy, and endometriosis surgery). She treats pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, urinary and fecal incontinence, pregnancy and postpartum-related impairments, and works sensitively with clients who have a history of trauma.
Additionally, Dr. Joyce is a Clinical Instructor, mentor to rising pelvic PTs, and lectures and lab-assists at the university level, preparing practitioners to treat even the most complex pelvic and sexual health cases with skill and compassion.
